Individual works and group works

The practical exercises and tutorial classes procedures are explained in the pedagogical commitments published on the programmes website for each course (click on the course codes, for example ENVT0010-1). Practical instructions for the completion and delivery of works are provided by the professors.

Written reports

The form of the written documents is part of the evaluation criteria. Every document must include the following points : correct spelling, page numbering, table of contents, cover, dates, names, course references, bibliography, charts and graphs with legends. Apart from the Master thesis, binding isn't required for written reports.

The production of written reports trains students for relevant documentary research, for critical mind development and ability to provide personal opinion on a subject, whilst permanently respecting ethical considerations. To help students, the ULiège provides multiple resources.

Oral presentations

Here is some advice to follow for oral presentations : speak clearly while looking at the audience, have a structured presentation, respect the time limit allowed, be careful not to give priority to form over substance for visual aids (PowerPoint presentations, etc.). The quality of thinking and argumentation is the main evaluation criteria.

Working places

A study room is available at the library. Depending on their availability, some classrooms can be used as working places if students make a request in advance to the Academic service (secretariat).

Master thesis

The content and the practical arrangements of the master thesis are determined by the pedagogical commitments. Some particular arrangements can be communicated by the professors in charge of the different masters options. The thesis represents a significant number of credits, therefore it's a major succes factor.

The subject of the thesis is selected in agreement with the professor in charge of the programme followed. Students must inform the Student Administrator of the subject choice in February. It is therefore necessary to think about a subject and look for a thesis supervisor at the beginning of the academic year.

The thesis can be based on a practical internship in a company, a research laboratory, an administration, etc. If so, the thesis consists on a thinking work about the practical work which has been done during the internship and is different from any internship report.

Master thesis from previous years can be consulted on the MatheO platform (Master Thesis Online).

Whether or not it is related to a practical internship, thesis must be supervised by an academic or a scientific supervisor from the ULiège. It is your responsibility to keep your supervisor and possible co-supervisor informed of the progress of your work and to take their comments into account.

The date of submission is set in agreement with the Faculty of Sciences. Students must give a printed version to the supervisor and co-supervisor, to all members of the reading committee and to the Academic service, at the latest by the date of submission.

The official submission must be done on the MatheO platform (Master Thesis Online).

The cover must include several elements as in the models below  :

The use of the official logo is allowed during the study period on Master theses covers and reports covers. The use of the logo in other contexts is not allowed.

Some instructions must be followed by students to complete their internship :

  • Instructions given by the coordinator of the programme to make sure that the internship is consistent with the student's programme.
  • The administrative procedures (in French) given by the Academic service. Compliance with these procedures is a condition to be covered by the ULiège insurance during the internship (see below).

The documents related to the internship must be fulfilled and submitted one month before the start of the internship to the Academic service, which will sent them to the Faculty of Sciences.

Students must keep the coordinator responsible for the supervision informed of the progress of the internship.

Read the information about insurance for ULiège students.

The ULiège's insurance cover any student regularly enrolled at the university. ULiège's liability is no longer engaged when you lose the student status, then you are no longer covered by the ULiège's insurance. The student status ends at the date of the deliberation and an extension of the internship as a student is no longer possible. For more information, contact the Legal Affaires Department.
