The Library of Sciences and Technology - Environmental section is located on the Arlon campus. It is open to students, researchers and ULiège staff members, but also to any visitor upon previous registration.
The main areas covered are agriculture, agrometeorology, land-use planning, water, ecology, energy, environment, earth sciences, developing countries, pollution and sociology.
The library is open Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4 pm (extended opening until 6 pm on Tuesday).
Any changes in opening hours, particularly during school holidays, are published on the ULiège libraries website (see BST - Environnement).
The library offers more than 30,000 books, 65 journals still published and 400 journals which are not published anymore. Within the ULiège Libraries Network, it offers 84,000 electronic journals, 500,000 e-books and more than 120 databases. Two computers are available as well as a 15-seat reading room.
On the ULiège libraries website, users can access documentary resources but also information about services offered : lending of books, copies, scans and prints, reading suggestions, help with documentary research, etc.
Students can borrow books upon presentation of their student card and can consult online resources in the library or at home by using their ULiège identifier. External visitors can also access all ULiège libraries upon a previous registration. They will receive a reader card and an identifier.
It is possible to consult the list of borrowed books and to extend the borrowing period in MyLibrary. If the library at Arlon doesn't have a book you need, it is possible to move it from either another ULiège library or another Belgian or foreign library via the interlibrary loan system.
The search interface provides access to documentary resources classified into 2 types : ULiège collections and non ULiège collections. Tutorials to help with documentary research exist to train online.
Resources from ULiège collections
If you look for a printed version, search into the ULiège collections. You will be able to borrow the document as soon as it is available : the same day if the document is in Arlon, within 1 or 2 days if it comes from another campus or within a few days if it comes from one of the 8 collection libraries or, for some works, in the consultation room of their library only. Electronic versions are directly accessible online.
Open Access and ULiège Library
For several years, the University of Liège has been part of a strong and active policy of free access to scientific information. It is in this movement that POPUPS, the Portal for the Publication of Scientific Periodicals, was created. This was followed by ORBi (Open Repository and Bibliography), the institutional repository directory, then DONum, the inter-university project for the repository of digitised objects and recently, MatheO (Master Thesis Online), the ULiège's portal for the repository of master thesis.
Resources specialised in environmental sciences
It is possible to consult electronic resources specialised in environmental sciences & ecology that are not always found in the search interface and that offer articles in Open Access. For instance, you can consult bibliographic databases, dictionaries, search engines, portals, websites of institutions, thesauri, etc.
The Youtube ULiege Library channel offers tutorials on services offered to users and on documentary research through various tools. Subscribe !
